How to Design Like a Minimalist?
Legibility and readability are playing a vital role in visual design. Both terms are related, legibility refers to how the text is clearly presented to the reader and readability refers to how easily the reader can read.
Creating a minimalistic logo, will be effective and aesthetic if the designer has the following points in his/her mind.
1. Put function first.
The creator show clearly knows the functions as well as the need for the logo.
2. Create a visual hierarchy.
Things should be prioritised and ordered according to their importance.
3. Be strict with proportion and composition.
The creator has to maintain scale.
4. Limit colour.
When we use minimum colours, it will be appealing.
5. Use simple typefaces.
It will be good if the designer uses san-serifs. So the readability will be effective.
6. Be bold with white space.
Be friendly with white space. Remember, white space is not the enemy.
7. Maintain a clean line and flat surface.
The designer should have a concern about the texture and form.
8. Prioritise the bare necessities.
Both the elements and principles of visual design theory should be minimal.
Some tips to make it more aesthetics are taking out the vowel letters. Using solid colours only or light colours or else using both of them. Be careful with values. Pick 2-3 colours from the colour palette before starting the design. It will be better if we use 2-, dimensional pictures.
Common characteristics of a minimalist logo design:
Minimalistic logo tends to have some common traits. Four of them are mentioned below.
1. Simple colour scheme. A minimalistic logo doesn't tend to have a vast colour palette. It can be bright or pale but it should be appealing and attractive. Also, it can be blank and white.
2. Negative Space. It's a true minimalistic trait. A negative space is also a space which usable space.
3. Playing with different fonts. Can use any font it can be serif or san-serif.
4. Geometric shapes. The designer can use simple shapes like circles, squares or triangles.
Example:
MASTERCARD's logo.
The name of the company was eliminated from the logo in 2019, leaving only the recognisable overlapping circles. This was the biggest change in Mastercard's most recent logo redesign. After almost two years of research, Mastercard discovered that 80% of respondents recognised the brand even when the brand name was absent, which gave them the confidence to keep evolving the design.
As a result, Mastercard now belongs to a select group of brands that are represented solely by a symbol, alongside Apple and Nike. This has ultimately led to a logo that is straightforward and adaptable.
One of the nicest aspects of the unveiling of the revised logo, it must be noted, was the way it was publicised on social media.
"We typically don't like to name drop, but we think we can make an exception," Mastercard wrote in a Facebook post unveiling the new design. A fantastic basic logo and excellent marketing example.
