It turns out that there are several reasons why Finns are happier than other people, including lower economic inequality (most significantly, the pay gap between the top and lowest paid), high levels of social support, decision-making freedom, and low levels of corruption. Finland receives the top marks in these categories as well as in personal rights. The Social Progress Index gauges quality of life in relation to three aspects of social progress: opportunity, foundations of welfare, and fundamental human needs. India is still at the bottom of the newly issued World Happiness Report 2022 by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network of the United Nations. A survey of 146 nations places us at position 136.

The issue is the pollution. India's poor ranking in the Safety & Security area (56th) lowers the country's overall quality of life. Comparatively to 64% of people worldwide, only about three out of ten expats (29%) are happy with the political stability of the nation.

Despite giving good ratings for high salaries and low living costs, expats in the country struggled with pollution, long working hours, culture shock, personal safety concerns, poor family life and below-par quality of life.
